Comicbits - Jan. 24th, 2008

January 24th, 2008

So I’m thinking of turning Lost Toast into the hub for all of my comic talk. I’ve long since abandoned the idea of being a highly functional member of a comic book discussion forum. After all, I am a rational human being with rational thoughts. I have no business living on a comic book forum. Barring a well needed spotlight on an indy book or… let’s say a review of the advance copy of “glamourpuss” that popped up in the mail, I’m staying here.

For the time being, my comic book updates will be sporadic. Probably frequently for about a month. Then, I will get bored, and try something new. Such is the way with me. But for now? Some quick opinions on things that arrived in the shop this past week. Hup-to!

Teen Titans #55 (DC Comics)
Dear Sean McKeever: Since you moved to DC, our relationship has been a little rocky. Countdown has been… well, Countdown, Birds of Prey began with a giant magic Go-Bot (no, sorry, you don’t get “Transformer”), and Teen Titans was… let’s say a bit jumbled. But then 2008 rolled around. Your second issue of Birds of Prey rocked hard. And this? Teen Titans #55? This is the good stuff. This is the book I have been waiting to read. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being awesome. Love: your alternative reality husband.

Amazing Spider-Man #548 (Marvel Comics)

The first month of One More Day ends - and hot damn, if Spider-Man is going to be like this every month, I’m glad we had to go through the growing pains. And for the record? The book is still selling a lot more than it did before OMD hit - at least at the comic shop I work at., Soooo… let’s all agree that you’re still buying the book, and drop the anger act, mmkay? Enjoy a comic. Touch a boob. It’ll do ya’ good.

Thirteen Steps #4 (Desperado Publishing)
Anybody else following this series? A great book in a long string written by Phil Hester. This dude wrote The Darkness, and I enjoyed it. THE DARKNESS! Now that takes some serious doing. Anyway, this one (co-written with Chuck Satterlee) is about a newly made warewolf taking a 13 step program to becoming a better creature - only things aren’t going quite perfectly. One of those books where you don’t know where it’s heading, and it’s great. Pick this one up in trade when it comes out!

The Order #7 (Marvel Comics)
Cancelled, yeah? At issue 10. So the numbers weren’t good. They never are for these kinds of things, right? But man. Matt Fraction created something wonderful here, and it’s a comic I’m going to miss dearly. WHERE WILL I GET MY ZOBO FIX NOW!???! WHERE???
